A Community for Wholehearted Disciples
Pursuing Depth in an Age of Distraction
Do you long to move beyond knowing about God to truly knowing Him?
Do you think, "There has to be more to following Jesus than doing religious things"?
When people experience the deepest closeness with God, it happens when God's loving pursuit of our hearts changes who we are. It's when faith shifts from an intellectual understanding about God to a personal experience of knowing God that transforms every aspect of our lives.
At Uncommon Pursuit, we know that God, our loving Father, always pursues us. Our name reflects His relentless initiative, His uncommon love that seeks us out even when we are far from Him.
Because God cares for us, we are a community that loves to respond to God's grace by knowing Him deeply, loving Him wholeheartedly, and living out our faith in every sphere of life.
Our Foundations for Spiritual Growth
We are grounded in the conviction that spiritual growth flourishes in the context of:
- Authentic Relationships: We prioritize building genuine friendships within close-knit small groups, where people can share their lives, care for one another, hold each other accountable, and encourage one another as they walk with Christ. It's when we get close to other disciples that we get close to God - and it's when we get close to God that we want to be close to other disciples of Jesus.
- Deep Engagement with Scripture: We believe that God's Word is living and active. We don't read the Bible to perform for God, impress each other, or going through the motions. We see Bible study as a means to experience God's love, be transformed by his grace, and live with purpose. Because Bible study is so critical to our lives, we approach it with earnest prayer, serious thoughtfulness, and encouraging discussions with one another.Â
- Conversational Prayer: Prayer is how we live. It's what keeps us connected to our loving, sovereign Father. It's honest, real, and open to whatever God wants to tell us. Prayer doesn't have to be perfect—but heartfelt. It can happen anywhere—in your car, throughout your day—as God brings things to mind that He wants to talk to us about.
- Corporate Worship: We value gathering together to worship God, hear His Word proclaimed, and celebrate His presence among us, focusing on who God is and what He says. We love the local church and want your involvement with Uncommon Pursuit to strengthen your involvement with other disciples of Jesus. Nothing can replace the in person meetings of God's people.Â
- Integrated Faith: Because God is at work in our hearts, we strive to live out our faith in every aspect of life—in our homes, workplaces, and communities—seeking to be ambassadors of Christ in all we do. This means we are always seeking God's wisdom for how to invest in our families, careers, and culture.Â
- Mentorship: We are committed to the biblical model of discipleship, where more mature believers humbly invest in the lives of others. Mentoring is not about being in charge, but being a servant, a friend, and a prayer partner, so that we can all understand our value in God's eyes.
Our Identity is in Christ
Whether you join us or not, we want you to know that we are beloved children of God, forgiven and accepted through Christ. We have found freedom and joy because we know what God knows: he loves us!
But it takes ongoing saturation in God's Word to understand who you are in Jesus. When your identity is in Christ, it takes away the pressure to perform, removes our guilt and shame, and gives us the rest we're so desperately searching to find.
It can never be about adopting someone else's faith—your parents, your pastor, or your peers—true life begins when you start standing in your own faith. Our courses and communities are designed to empower you to discover who God says you are.
Not Another Program
Most spiritual development programs either water down theology to make it 'relevant' or make it purely academic (and then it is disconnected from the real challenges we face).
The Academy is different—a community where everyone can access deep biblical insights in ways that actually change how we live.
We recognize the seasons of spiritual highs and lows. Are you going through a dark time where you feel like you can't hear God's voice? We've been there too. We want to help you discover that God uses these dark, lonely, uncertain times to accomplish his purposes for our lives.
This isn't a quick fix or a three-week program. Spiritual growth is a lifelong process of dying to self—a continuous journey of growing closer to God, together. We understand the struggles believers face with pride, temptation, doubts, and feeling distant from God, because we have them too. We understand you have a busy schedule, limited energy, and pressing commitments. We're here to support and encourage you as you make God a priority.
How the Academy Works
When you join the Uncommon Pursuit Academy, here's what you'll experience:
Structured Biblical Learning
Instead of surface-level Bible reading, you'll access over 300 carefully crafted lessons organized into 11 comprehensive courses. Each course tackles a different aspect of spiritual growth.
Weekly Live Discussions
Every week, we gather on Zoom to discuss what we're learning, pray together, and encourage one another. These calls are the heartbeat of our community—where we get to know and support each other as we respond to God's love.
Private Online Community
Between our weekly calls, you'll have access to our private discussion forums. Ask questions, share insights, request prayer, and build relationships with others who are pursuing Jesus wholeheartedly.
Personal Guidance
As the founder, I'm personally involved in our community. You'll receive a welcome call when you join, and I'm active in our forums and weekly discussions. My goal is to know you and support your walk with Jesus.
Hi, I'm Carson
For over twenty-one years, I've walked through the highs and lows of ministry—seeing lives transformed by God's love while navigating my own failures, doubts, and struggles.
Through seasons of wrestling with God and healing from spiritual abuse, I've discovered something profound: God never fails. I've learned to rest in knowing God as a faithful Friend who meets us where we are.
If you've ever felt stuck in your faith, burdened by doubts, or unsure how to move forward, you're not alone. I created the Academy as a place where we can wrestle with hard questions and grow together with intellectual honesty and emotional health.
This isn't about polished answers or one-size-fits-all programs. It's about joining a community where we study Scripture deeply, share honestly, and encourage one another to live wholeheartedly for Jesus.
With degrees from Rhodes College, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (anticipated graduation in August 2025), my academic journey has equipped me to approach questions with both rigor and compassion. But what matters most is creating a space where you feel welcomed, challenged, and inspired to grow.
Still, I know even my best efforts aren't enough. Ultimately, we're completely relying on God to change our lives.
I hope you'll join me and our community as we pursue Jesus together.
Our Courses (A Pathway to Spiritual Growth)

Frequently Asked Questions
Why are you charging for this?
The reality is that we bear substantial costs to offer personalized guidance, intensively prepare for our weekly meetings, provide excellent courses on a best-in-class platform, and build a global community of thoughtful believers.
Free resources can be a good start, but they often lack depth and personal connection. Your membership supports easy-to-use technology, qualified moderators, and the latest scholarship—everything that helps a global community of disciples follow Jesus together.
What do you believe about God?
Our community is rooted in historic Christian orthodoxy as expressed in the Nicene Creed and the Cape Town Commitment—a modern declaration of evangelical faith and practice developed through the collaboration of global church leaders.
We welcome thoughtful discussion on challenging topics—like how to understand difficult Bible passages, navigate cultural issues, or apply faith to everyday decisions—even as we remain committed to essential Christian doctrines: the authority of Scripture, the deity of Christ, salvation by grace through faith, and the church's mission to make disciples. Our goal isn't to reinvent Christianity but to love Jesus more.
Is this too academic for me?
Whether you're a pastor, a parent, a business leader, a student, or retired, what unites our community isn't credentials—it's curiosity. What matters is developing a greater understanding of who God is—in our minds AND our hearts. Together, we've explored nearly 2,000 topics with over 12,000 posts. We're making space for everyone to grow at their own pace.
What about my local church?
This isn't meant to replace but complement your local church. Nothing can replace the local church! The Academy equips you to lead and serve in your local church while providing fellowship and helping you see how the Lord has worked in others' lives. Whenever you face difficult situations or challenging questions, you'll have another safe place to get support and answers.
Will I fit in?
In the Academy, you'll find people from their teens to their 70s, from all walks of life and various denominations. Some are lifelong believers, others are rediscovering faith after challenges like spiritual abuse. Whether you prefer to share or quietly reflect, you'll find your place among wise, caring, and godly followers of Jesus. We'll point you to how the Scriptures transform us to be like Jesus.
